after reading this useful information.
Follow the recipe
Following the recipe is the first step towards
baking a perfect cake. We often substitute ingredients based on what are
readily available. Do not subbing out eggs, reduce sugar, use liquid sweetener
instead of dry, all-purpose instead of cake flour, baking soda for powder, egg
whites instead of whole eggs, correct use of required size pan, etc. The taste
of the cake will not be perfect. The ingredients required are needed for a
reason and the cake will fail if the recipe wasn’t followed. It is recommended
to follow a recipe properly for the first time, and then try making changes the
next time.
- Room Temperature
Baking required room temperature ingredients. There
are science and legitimate reasons behind it. Use eggs, sour cream, butter, and milk at room
temperature. This makes the bonding easier and quicker. Butter is capable of
holding air and the creaming process needs trapped air. We need to make sure
that the air bubbles are properly incorporated in the butter.
So, keep in mind that the ingredients need to be of room temperature before mixing.
- Measure the ingredients properly
This is where we most often make mistakes. The
difference between the cake and the best
birthday cakes in Gurgaon could lie within 1 extra measured teaspoon of
sugar! It is imperative to measure the ingredients properly.
We often wrongly measure the flour. It is advisable
to use the spoon and level method. Correct measuring technique for a particular
ingredient will definitely guarantee better baking of cakes. The measuring
spoon should not be overloaded while measuring. The best way is to take off the
extra flour from the measuring spoon.
- Cake flour
Use cake flour rather than all-purpose flour. Cake
flour is a low protein flour that can be milled into a delicate consistency.
The tender texture of the cake flour translates into your baked cake. Though
all-purpose flour is easily available, it is recommended to use cake flour.
- Over mixing and under mixing
Make sure you whisk the batter just until the
ingredients are combined. Do not over mix and do not under mix. Over mixing
will make the baked item tough textured and under mixing will not incorporate the
ingredients properly. Only a properly mixed cake batter will help you bake the
best birthday cake.
- Parchment paper
Prepare your pan properly. Use parchment paper cut
into the shape of the base. On cooling, run a thin knife around the edges of
the pan and invert the cake out. Peel off the parchment paper on the base.
- Don’t open the oven
Do not open the oven to keep checking the cake.
This will let cool air inside and the temperature of the oven will change
causing the cake to sink. You can use oven thermometer to check the temperature
of the oven. Check the cake only once or twice. Not more than that. Else all
the hot air will escape from the oven and the cake will not be perfect.
- Bounce-Back test
To test whether the cake is done, we use a
toothpick. Simply stick a toothpick in the center of the cake. If it comes out
clean, it is cooked. This test is very important to check whether the cake is
baked properly or not.
When done, remove the cake. Press gently down on
the cake. If it bounces back, it’s ready. If you leave a dent in the cake, it
needs more time. In that case, put the cake back into the oven for a few more
minutes.
- Cake needs to cool completely in the pan
We are often in a rush to take the cake out of the
pan. This is a disaster. The flavour has not settled and the frosting will
melt.
Allow the cake to cook completely in the pan. If
you are in a rush, then rack the pan in the refrigerator to speed up the
cooking process.
- Storing and transporting cakes
Cakes taste best at room temperature. If you
prepare cake one day ahead, you can bake and cool it. Fresh frosting taste
best. So keep it in the refrigerator.
- Some extra baking tips for decoration
Classic and simple cake decorations are the best.

decorations can be made even if you are a novice.
